I highly recommend R.L Stines "The first horror", "The second horror""The third horror", "Trapped". And especially his book "The dead girlfriend". I am very picky and hard to scare.. His teen thrillers are truly gruesome and very well described to the point where you feel like you are in them. They just suck you in.. And have some nice romance plots along with the disturbing core. If you like those, he also has plenty others in his teen thriller stories.

This is probably really stupid but I'm 13 and am a very picky eater. I can't eat fruits or veggies because they have certain textures that I can't stand. I've tried an apple, a carrot, and a strawberry (I forced myself) and I Absolutely don't like them. I can't remember having a fruit/ veggies that I liked since I was force fed. I've never had a burger or fish or anything like that. The only meat I eat is pork on when it's a pepperoni on a pizza. I'm entering into my junior year of high school in the fall and I felt like it was time that I start preparing for the future. A lot of my classmates are obsessed with obtaining a GPA of at least a 4.0. I know that it will be extremely difficult to compete with them on a level where I can graduate in the top tenth of my class. I have a GPA of 3.80 with two honors classes. Next year, I will be taking Honors Pre-Calculus and AP Chem and a couple of other honors courses. Senior year AP Calculus and AP Bio. I'm looking at eventually doing Pharmaceutical and something in the medical field and I'm not sure what to do. It is important to me that I can get a scholarship, but still attend a top school. What it really matter if I graduate top tenth or quarter of my class? I'm almost positive that I'm in the top third. Say there are 70 students in my class, would a college really care about how I stand amongst my piers? I can very well see my GPA going to 3.85+ in the next year but I'm not sure if it's guaranteed. I have less than 60 community service hours, but I'm very good at sports (including soccer and basketball). How much different is it to get into a college from a private high school than a public one? Any help is appreciated!

maybe for a snack only have one slice of bread or half a slice because too many carbs will make you gain weight. try not to have similar meal in the same day, you will get too much of the nutrients that's in that meal which isn't a good thing. fruits that are white on the inside(apples, bananas, peaches...) have more calories, so other fruits like oranges or plums would be a better choice if you eat it that often. try having a salad with seasoned-rice vinegar instead of dressing would be good to pair with a meal since it fills you up and is very low in calories, fat, sugar, ect. hope this helps!

Eating 1200 a day & burning 500 5 days out of the week?

I'm using an app on my phone to track everything I eat & I have to eat 1227 to lose 2 lbs a week & I'm working out tons too, burning about 500 calories minimum 4-5 days a week so my question is should I eat a little more or no? Dull complexion at age 20?

I smoked for a couple years a while back completely oblivious at the effect it was having on my skin specifically my face. Quit smoking and drank a lot of green tea ( I work for a green tea co, so easily 8-10 cups a day) the caffine in the tea ended up making me break out really bad, again, completely oblivious that it was the tea I thought it was stress or sugar. Finally figured it out and switched to caffine free... (Insult to injury, I first was worried about my lifeless skin, then moderate acne, now acne scars!) when acne cleared I went to the dermatologist and got a chemical peel to even the skin tone. Which helped a lot with skin tone and scaring, but I still feel that I'm quite pale... I exfoliate with a vitamin c scrub once a week, use a natural pomegrant softening toner, eye cream for my always tired looking eyes, and a vitamin c moisturzer with spf 30. I don't tan cuz I know how bad it is for skin and I feel like I'm basically doing everything right .. my sleeping schedule is pretty bad but I still get 7-8 hours of sleep and I eat healthy when I can ( not my choice my mom buys all the groceries so I don't have my pick of fresh veggies and fish) stopped taking hair skin and nail vitamins cuz I felt they weren't doing much. BTW, my skin tone is a really nice olive. I'm black Korean and white so its more of a tan light skinned black girl thing going on. My skin on the face just looks dull and lifeless no matter what I do and I know its from smoking, but I've been told that the skin has really amazing healing abilities, especially since I'm young. I plan on exersizing some more but I'm a pretty fit person as well. Sorry about the rant but I'm pretty confused as to what else I need to do here. Oh and its been like 7-8 months since I quit smoking.

Apparently they are not as highly rated. The Bible does contain fiction, but that does not mean it is a work of fiction. It is a Spiritual book which contains spiritual truths. Maybe you should read it, especially the part about Jesus... who He is and what He has done. There is a reason why they call it the greatest story ever told.

I have seaweed in a cut on my foot, what do I do?

I tripped by a lake, and cut my foot on the pier. It's a really small cut. About a centimeter long. It's not too deep either. The thing is, I got seaweed in it. There was kind of a lot. I tried to get as much out as I could with like a toothpick and water... But there is a small chunk a little bigger than a splinter. I can't get it out. I put rubbing alcohol and neosporin on it. Will I be fine? Or is there more I should do?

I'm 5' 6" and 110 pounds. I have a smaller than average build. I eat what I want when I want, and have PLENTY of fat in my diet. I eat healthy, lots of bread and rice, dairy, fruits, veggies, and fish. I also have a couple of sweet snack cakes every day. I exercise a TON, not to lose weight, just cause I like exercising. I jog about 2-3 hours a day. I notice that a have some prominent bones, really only in my hips and mid-back, but when I do gain weight I just get a massive double chin. According to BMI I am underweight. However, everyone tells me they think I have the perfect body. I'm thin but not anorexic-looking, and while I have a tiny chest I'm plenty curvy down south. I don't understand, why does BMI tell me I need to gain weight?

Breakfast I usually eat a banana or a small bowl of cereal at 8 am. I eat lunch at 12-12:30, and it's usually a veggie burger, or a salad or a lot of strawberries and grapes. At 3, I'll usually eat string cheese. Then at 5:30 or 6, I'll eat salad, rice, veggies or a cheese quesadilla. (I'm a vegetarian) I also take vitamins everyday. I am content with my stomach by the end of the day, not hungry or full. It's about 800-1000 calories I'm in-taking. I'm trying to lose weight, I drink A LOT of water, and I run 3-5 miles every day and do about 50 sit ups and 30 push ups. I'm 178 pounds and I want to drop to 130 or 140, how long would that take? Where different / how should I store a fresh tomato in my 'fridge?

No problems with storing them together. I store mine in the salad crisper drawer but I remove all wrappings and place in separate trays in the drawer. It's not for cross contamination but one can make the other ripen quicker which you don't want if you want to keep them longer. I also place a piece of kitchen paper in the bottom of each container to stop condensation but if your fridge has a humidifying thingy then you don't need to.

Umm, have you gone to a doctor? Maybe you have asthma, and you just don't know? That's maybe my guess. But also, you may not know, (but you may also) but once you run or walk, don't sit down right after. It's not good to do that after a run. But don't get discouraged! You're doing a great thing by staying fit :)

With some people acne products don't work and its chemicals could make it worst. Try something less harsh on your skin like scrubbing with regular soap with a wash cloth or a regular facial cleanser. What foods can I eat that have no carbs/sugars?

I have type 2 diabetes, but no longer have health insurance or medicine. I cannot eat carbs or even fruit without my sugars skyrocketing. Would it be a good idea to tinfoil veggies and keep them in the cool car along the way? Just the tinfoil, no water or anything.

Help with tofu recipe please?

We got some tofu the other day so I tried to make some tofu stirfry... I made some really good tofu stirfry a couple of months ago but I forgot to save the recipe! so I spent forever looking for another recipe. I finally found one that looked okay, but when I made it the tofu was WAY too salty. It said to marinate the tofu in soy sauce and garlic, and I cooked veggies seperately (broccoli, mushrooms, peas, onions). I tried the tofu and it was WAY too salty and marinating it made it look really unappetizing (it looked like beef chunks; I'm a vegetarian and I never was a fan of beef before) I put it in with the veggies hoping they'd dilute the salty taste or something, but I ending up taking it out and storing it in the fridge because it was just wayyyyy too salty to eat. Is there any way to make it taste less salty? Oh, and does anyone have any tried and true good recipes using tofu?

While walking back to the car to leave, a State Park officer stopped us, arrested us, and charged possession of an open container, and underage drinking on me. Crumbly bowel movement. Is this something serious?

I apologize in advance for the gross post, but I'm starting to get concerned. After being inactive for so long, I have been exercising a lot the past 3 weeks (mainly jogging). I've noticed for the past week my poop has been very crumbly. My diet has changed as I have been trying to eat lots of veggies and whole grains, but my poop gets getting more and more crumbly. Suggestions for where to buy furniture?

Hi all, I need to pick up some furniture for grad school in August. I already have bedroom furniture, but my roommate in college already had kitchen and living room furniture there when I moved in. I'd like a couch/futon (I say futon because I'm on a budget and they tend to be cheaper than just a regular couch, and as long as it's clean and relatively comfy I'm not high maintenance), a coffee table, maybe a new TV stand, and a small kitchen table with 2-4 chairs (my apartment doesn't really have a place to put a regular-sized kitchen or dining room table). A lot of Ikea's stuff is a bit too modern for my tastes. I've checked out Pier 1 and like some of their tables, so I'm wondering if anybody else has some suggestions along those lines--something that's going to give a more classic look (keeping in mind that my wallet is that of a grad student, not a Wall Street banker ;)). I've heard flea markets, etc are good places to look, but truth be told I hate shopping, so I'd kind of prefer a chain store that will be easier to shop. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

What would be a good small pet for me?

I have had rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rats. I used to have a lot of rabbits but found homes for all except one because they are a lot of work, but I do love my little Holland Lop ''Bucky.'' He is the sweetest rabbit ever and he follows me round the yard and lies with me in the shade. I think me an him have the strongest bond out of all my pets. Since he isn't neutered (he is 5 years old now and I was worried he would be too old) he sometimes has his ''moments'' which is bothersome but understandable and I never get mad at him but my next rabbit I will get younger and have neutered. I have a guinea pig named Panda and I know they need company so I have been trying to find a single female guinea pig that I can adopt in Eugene, OR without much success. I love Panda and I like to hold her and give her veggies on my lap. I love her soft squeaks (and LOUD squeaks) and she is cute. However she will not get any exercise unless motivated by veggies, so I have to give her veggies to her by spreading them all over her giant pen so she has to run around and get them. So I love holding her and watching her but sometimes it is hard to tell if she enjoys being held and petted or not. I adopted 2 rats from my local humane society. I love them dearly, but they are females and pretty active. They aren't as interested as being rubbed/scratched or held as some of my other females have been. However they ares still cute and fun and they love coming up and getting treats during play time, I just wish they were a little more snuggly/affectionate. So after reading all that in the future what would be good pets for me? I like pets that are openly affectionate and show their love for you similar to a dog. I am thinking of only having 1 or 2 animals from now on so care/cleaning ect. doesn't seem like too much and so that I don't have to worry as much about a pet being too much work because I won't have so many. I was thinking maybe male rats? Any other suggestions are helpful and you can provide care information as well.

Potatoes and Pinto beans? What to make for dinner?

We are pretty short on food so I need to figure out what I can make out of potatoes and pinto beans (canned) for dinner tonight. I tried looking up stuff but I dont have anything else to add to it and I liked the idea of fried potatoes with beans but how would I do that? Just add the beans when the potatoes are almost done? Or cook them on the side? I dont really cook with beans because I am not a fan so when we do have beans its usually baked beans or refried beans out of a can but these are just plain old pinto beans in a can and Im a little stumped on what to do with them. I know I could make soup but not really in the mood for soup and I prefer more veggies in m soups and I have no stocks or broths of any kind. Thanks

You weigh less so you probably need less total food. Have you calculated your calorie intake. If I new your height and weight I might venture a guess as to why your weight loss has slowed down. As far as the stomach goes that probably requires more exercise.

Help!! I feel hungry and nauseous after eating?

Okay, I am 23 years old and am about 80 pounds over weight. I'm constantly trying to loose weight..and I always feel like its a struggle. Sometimes i'll loose and then sometimes I don't. I am not sure what is wrong with me. This is a pretty random thing.. i'll eat and about an hour or so after eating i get this starving/nauseous feeling. Like i haven't eaten in days... Its a random thing, but it happens alot. I can't tell what is causing it. And i don't think it is what I am eating, because i've noticed it happen after eating fast food...home cooked meals.. dairy.. fruits..veggies etc.. i can't narrow anything down in particular. 95% of the time i'm trying to eat healthy anyway.. to loose weight. and i do eat 3-4 meals a day. i want to lose like 45 pounds. I am 5'6 and the last time I weighed myself, I weighed 182. i am eating more healthy(fruits and veggies), I am not eating junk food that much.I eat but just a little and not everyday. You know moderatley. I also reduced my meal portions. I am drinking tons of water everday and not drinking too much sodas or juices. I am also doing 45-60 min of cardio exercise everyday(jump roping) and doing another 20 min or 40 of walking sometimes in the afternoons. i eat like less than 1500 calories day, maybe like 1200 or 1300. I have been doing this for about 1 week and i feel somewhat slimmer and with more energy. Do you think I will lose like 20 pounds by august 15?

I really recommend It's Kind Of a Funny Story, by Ned Vizzini. It's not a mystery, but it's a great book. It's about this kid, Craig, who's suicidal and ends up in a psychiatric hospital for a couple of days and how he copes. Ned Vizzini is a really awesome writer, so check that out for sure. A more sci-fi/mystery oriented book you might like is I Am Number Four, which is a book revolving around a kid who is next in line to get assassinated by a secret organization from another planet.

i have the same problem. The only thing i've found that works for me is to distract myself. Do something that you find entertaining, watch a movie, go for a walk, anything honestly that will stop you from being bored! It's the only solution i've found for me, hope it helps :)

Why am I not losing the pounds?

I have not eaten fast food or eaten out in days maybe a couple of weeks. I am drinking more water and eating healthier (oatmeal, veggies, fruits, eggs, cheerios, etc.). I do occasionally drink a soft drink and have a little candy (non chocolate). I thought for sure the pounds would come off easily. I actually feel more bloated and heavier than before. Why is this? Is it that I am retaining water or am I losing the weight in other areas than legs, abdomen, and behind?

I just get this food called Bonanza Guinea pig food, and it comes with a lot of pellets and dried veggies. I just scoop some out and put it in his food bowl. So he mostly eats the pellets.

It's always better to go with the traditional spelling. It just saves a lot of hassle. It's a pain to have to correct pronunciations and spellings for your whole life just because your parents had to try to be unique and use an unusual spelling. If the traditional spelling is from another country i'd go with that rather than whatever the american equivalent is.

Is it okay to add formula to milk for a toddler?

Hi! My daughter is now two...around 18 months of age, she was taking horrendously long naps and was in a very low percentile for weight. She had always been an exceptional and gluttonous eater but suddenly got very picky around 14 months. She was switched to whole cow's milk at about a year so that wasn't an issue. Around 18 months, I started to add formula powder into her large straw cup of milk (without water) to give her more calories/protein/nutrition. Immediately, her naps shortened to a more normal time frame and her weight and height began to increase. She's doing great, according to her pediatrician, but it crossed my mind today that perhaps the formula/milk-sans-water combo might be too much on her kidneys? She doesn't eat a lot of protein ...it seems she's more apt to eat fruits, grains and veggies so I don't know if the milk/formula combo is ok or still too much. She gets her milk/formula with meals only and I give her water or watered down juice throughout the day. Anyone have any idea if there's a health risk with this?

First off, I loved both Sarah and Diana. Yes, both had problems, mentally and emotionally. Second, HOW in the world could they NOT KNOW how to behave as Royals? I mean, my God, they grew up knowing how Royals were expected to behave! Diana was born as an aristocrat who personally knew and lived next door to the Royal family. Sarah knew the family through her father and Diana as a friend and both kept committing the worst public mistakes! I feel bad for the Duchess, but I've kind of given up on her. It would take a good decade of proper behavior from her for me to feel that she deserves her (whatever) this chance is (10th, 20th, ??) Again, I love her, but I just can't believe how thick she is. The Tripod Trilogy. Its an older series, written in the 1960s, but still very excellent. I had to read the first one for a class, got hooked and read the others. Its a post-apocaliptic series about humans enslaved by unknown masters who walk around in large three legged machines. The books are easy reads and very entertaining. They are: The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead, The Pool of Fire, and a prequel called When the Tripods Came.

Ideas on what to feed my 1 yr old for lunch?

okay so he is 14 months old. and he has a very very picky 3 year old big brother. he and his brother eat really good for me for breakfast, and he's easy to feed for dinner because he normally eats what we eat. but i normally don't sit down and eat lunch with them, my 3 year old only has certain foods that he will eat for lunch, and i don't want my 1 year old being picky like that. and i don't want to feed him the same things every single day.. so far what i do feed him is things like, halves of ham/ turkey sandwiches, he loves grilled cheeses, chicken nuggets, all sorts of vegetables but so far i am scared to feed him raw veggies as he doesn't have all of his teeth yet, he loves fruit and i try to mix that up, he loves yogurt, but he gets fruit and yogurt some times for breakfast along with his cereal or whatever..... i thought i would ask you guys about what you feed your little ones for lunch every single day? he has also gotten in to this phase where he thinks its funny to toss his food over the side of the highchair and so more is ending up in the floor and then in the trash then is ending up in his tummy.. i just want to try and fix stuff that i know he will love to eat. he's a great eater and i want to continue to build on that, but i am afraid if i feed him what the 3 year old eats all of the time he will also grow to be picky.. thanks..

My 13 year old Dachshund is on a raw food diet and continues to gain weight.?

We adopted our dachshund when he was 11 and switched him to a raw food diet and food supplements. He was barely walking when we got him. Within a couple weeks, he was running and we began exercising him everyday. He gets a rounded tablespoon of raw meat and several raw veggies twice a day and yet he continues to gain weight. He gets one tiny treat a day and no table scraps. His health is suffering because of his weight and I do not know what to do.

Why does my weight keep fluctuating when I'm eating right and exercising? I should be losing weight!?

I've been eating right (lots of ice water, fresh fruits, veggies, chicken, tuna, fat free yogurt and fat free cottage cheese mostly). Very few carbs. No white flour or sugar. My weight was 173 to start. Now it keeps fluctuating between 167 and 172. I don't understand! I'm walking/jogging twice a day (about 3 1/2 miles per time at about 4-5 mph). I'm taking green tea pills, green tea acai water pills, hydroxycut max and Jillian Michaels detox and cleanse pills. Any suggestions? I need to lose 15 lbs by July 20th or be down to 155 lbs to win a bet! Thanks!

Your on the right path but for one thing...starch. Having a salad with your dinner is great. But you also need your fruit and other darker veggies, and nuts. Having starch and every mean....bread, pasta, rice...it's actually stammering your chances. I would suggest not so much starchy foods and when you do make it whole grain. In between your meals try a yogurt or a handful of nuts. Also when you think you might be hungry drink a huge glass a water. It makes your body think you are full. Eat slow as well. It takes 20 min for the mind to register you have eaten and are full. Never go back for seconds until you have waited that long. Your stomach is as big as your two fists put together, rule of thumb for the amount.

The first fish is a lizard fish, I have caught many of them on shrimp and squid as well as small spoons.The other small fish is a type of herring, they eat just about any meat and are easy to catch. As for the crab I am not sure, there are many different species of crab.

Possible gluten intolerance/ constipation..?

I have celiac but I am not advised to cut oats out of my diet, strangely, and I never have constipation. It may just be me, but I think it would be a smart decision to get a blood test or a biopsy to check. So many people don't realize they have this intolerance. If taking oats out of your diet helped that much, I think switching to a gluten- free diet would be a really smart decision. But again, I say you should get it checked out. My health improved dramatically as soon as I switched.

Ok so i have a friend that i met last year, i think he's gay so he has no interest in me whatsoever but to be friends. He has a group of friends at school from last year, when we weren't friends. He sucks up to this girl from his "group", trying to impress her and stuff, he's really nice to her, kinda like a little dog following it's owner. It's so desperate. And he only hangs out with me on weekends and when he comes over the only things he wants to do are his things he likes to listen to the B-52's and read agatha christie novels, and watch Kath and Kim. And we started this band a while ago now and the only songs that he "let's" us play are B-52's songs!!!!!!! i never get any say!. We had another member in our band (the guitarist and my best girlfriend) and she hates the B-52's so she left and he now says that the reason she left was because she wasn't good enough and wasn't willing to learn the songs, she's a brilliant guitarist!!!!! it just wasn't her style of music ok? When he's not hanging out with this girl at school He's treats me like s**t. For example if i ask him about an outfit he'll say sarcastically that it's terrible, then laugh and say i'm kidding, he's got and annoying little brother that i HATE. He only ever comes over to my place and if he can't and i say can i go to yours? he throws a tantrum. E.g. yesterday i told him no because i wanted a break from my place and to go to his for ONCE and his mother was on the phone saying that he was sick in bed. He then texted me a couple of minutes later asking if he could come over and i said no. And then to get him to let me go over i told him that i got some new clothes, (he loves looking through my wardrobe) and he replied with: ohhh what do you want me to do?? throw a party? we haven't spoken since. But i had a fight with him before and he was going on about how i was so self centered and had over reaction issues and are annoying other people as well as him, i asked him who but he didn't tell me i told him about how we only ever do what HE wants to do!!!!!! and he didn't say anything on the matter!!!!!! Hi, it depends what sort of genre you would be interested in. Shakespeare wrote comedy, tragedy and history plays. If you like a gripping plot that doesn't necessarily end well for the characters involved, then a tragedy may be your first choice, I would start with 'Hamlet' or 'Macbeth'. I quit smoking in December and, at the time, I was drinking heavily and eating crap, but I was 125 pounds. Shortly after, I cut down drinking considerably, started working out regularly and eating really healthy (no eating out, tons of veggies and other stuff that provides no enjoyment), and cut down significantly on the drinking, but in a matter of 5 months, I was up 20 pounds. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF I KILLED MY GUINEA PIG?!?!!?!?

I got a cavy about a month ago, and he's always been pretty vocal and active. Today, I was putting him back in his cage after floor time, and I wasn't able to stop him from jumping out of my hands. He was fine at first, but then a few minutes later, he started sneezing for about five minutes, then coughed, then started excessively chewing on his tube toy. Then he started eating his fresh veggies,but then went from those to hay to pellets, back to veggies. Then he went in his pigloo, and has been lying on his side, and nestling his head into the bedding. I have been checking on him, and when I sit down eye level with the cage, he "yawns" and starts clicking his teeth at me. He even charged the cage this last time. I looked around, and some sites say that laying is relaxing. But I've never seen him do this before, and normally his fresh food lasts only minutes, its been like an hour, and he hasn't eaten much, but I always give him food when we are playing. I really hope he's gonna be ok! Also, I know yawning is a sign he's pissed, and his breathing is ABOUT 104 bpm. I say about because he kept moving. And he hasn't made any noises. Not even when he jumped, if he got hurt he would have squeeled right? Could he just be mad at me cuz he is not a fan of going back in his cage?
